PEGS-GWIE proudly congratulates Dr. Saili Kulkarni and Research Assistant alumni Jessica Parmar on their recent publication, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Student and Family Perspectives on AAC Devices. Their co-authored research was published this July in Augmentative and Alternative Communication, one of the top journals in the field of Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
The Research Assistant Program provides academic and financial support to project teams comprised of one student Research Assistant and one faculty mentor. Research Assistants work alongside his or her faculty mentor through an extended research project, culminating in a co-authored manuscript for publication.
As a member of the first Research Assistant Cohort, Parmar (Class of 2016) completed her work before having taken any graduate level courses. She is currently a Special Education Teacher at Redondo Union High School. Dr. Kulkarni, an Assistant Professor of Special Education, supports the growing research community at CSUDH through her teaching and continued service as a mentor to aspiring scholars.
